Immunity
Immunity is gained over time to infectious diseases of which the body has encountered before, either directly or indirectly via other processes. The cells of the immune system however, are dynamic and can be influenced by nutrition and normal physiological functions. Ideally, the immune system should fight foreign infectious agents by responding quickly to eliminate the threat. Our immune systems may produce inappropriate hypersensitivity responses to seemingly harmless substances, resulting in injurious conditions such as asthma and allergy.
Disease causing infections and the activation of our immune system in response can leave us tired, in pain, and considerable discomfort. Some infections can be quite substantially damaging to the body and even fatal, therefore it is important to be vigilant about being exposed to possible sources of infections from bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites.
