Cardiovascular Health
Cardiovascular health is central to our many organ systems within the body, as it supplies energy and oxygen to all tissues via the blood vessels. In providing the fuel for every one of the body’s physiological processes, maintaining a healthy cardiovascular system is essential to longevity and ongoing everyday wellbeing.
The heart is the engine of our body, an essential requirement for life as it acts as a pump, to distribute blood around the body. From the heart, oxygenated blood is pumped to the body via the systemic system and returned by the venous system. As this blood no longer has any oxygen; but in replace carbon dioxide, this blood is pumped to the lungs by the pulmonary circulation where it exchanges carbon dioxide for oxygen and returns it to the heart.
The blood vessels (a system of hollow tubes to transport the blood) are required to be semi-permeable and elastic. These characteristics are vulnerable to disease processes and represent a susceptible target to becoming obstructed. Therefore, it is important to protect the blood vessels and the heart from damage.
