With glucosamine, manganese and ginger, Oriostin is designed to attack the pain and decreased mobility associated with arthritis from 3 different angles. Oriostin contains glucosamine, one of the primary building blocks for cartilage production and particularly important for the ongoing maintenance of its cushioning properties. These effects are enhanced by the addition of manganese, necessary for the growth, repair and maintenance of joint tissue, as well as being beneficial in the treatment of osteoporosis. Finally, Oriostin contains ginger, a natural pain reliever that has been clinically proven as an effective anti-inflammatory. The end result? Less pain and more mobility for those suffering the effects of arthritis.
Glucosamine
As a naturally occurring long change amino-sugar molecule, glucosamine plays an important role in cartilage health and resilience. Glucosamine is the major building block of proteoglycans, and is used in the formation of glycosaminoglycans (GAGs), which bind water within the structure of cartilage and give cartilage its flexible and protective properties. Glucosamine also stimulates collagen production.
Glucosamine has been proven to be at least equal to conventional NSAID therapy for osteoarthritis, with over 20 controlled clinical trials with more than 6000 participants judging it to be effective as a treatment for the relief of pain and functional impairment. It also has a particularly safe toxicity profile, and may be used in conjunction with conventional anti-inflammatory and analgesic treatments, making it an attractive adjuvant therapy option for the management of arthritis.
Manganese
Manganese is a naturally-occurring trace element present that is an important co-factor in the biochemical reactions by which joint tissues are made. Manganese is necessary for bone mineralisation, as well as for the synthesis of connective tissue in cartilage and bone. Manganese accumulates in the bones, enhancing growth and repair by stimulating bone building and suppressing bone resorption. Studies have shown that low manganese levels may lead to bone fractures and decreased bone density, with female osteoporosis patients possessing as little as only 20% of the serum manganese levels of healthy women.
Ginger
The British Herbal Compendium indicates ginger for inflammation and rheumatic problems. Ginger, a natural pain reliever, contains melatonin and 12 different anti-inflammatory compounds, some with mild aspirin-like properties, that collective mediate potent anti-inflammatory effects. Used in Japan for spinal and joint pains for thousands of years, ginger provides temporary relief from arthritic pain and also functions as a powerful antioxidant. It can alleviate the pain, inflammation and joint stiffness associated with arthritis. Studies have shown ginger to reduce the production of the inflammatory mediator prostaglandins, thereby reducing the pain sensitisation normally associated with its release and providing a strong underlying basis ginger’s effectiveness as an analgesic.
